Our Family Tree - Riener, Katherine

Narrative

"Karl Kurtz also found memories of his granmother, Katherine Schmalzbauer. "Grandmother was a small woman, but built of iron and steel. In her late sixties, she broke her hip in March, but that summer she was back working in her large garden. She made her own sauerkraut and wine and was an excellent cook who loved to put up canned goods. She was good to all of us boys who lived next door. We mowed her lawn, shoveled snow, chopped wood, worked in her garden and did many other chores for her. She always gave us bread and jelly or cookies. She was very religious and read in the religious book every day"
